Across the weekend, artists, craftsmen, brands, manufacturers, importers, designers and stylists working in fashion, textile, home decor, the art of entertaining, culinary arts, gifts and furnishings will take over the Mini Hotel Central creating a wonderland of design just ready for everyone to explore. This is a great chance to seek out and discover new designs and to get really hands on with the creations. Guests will, of course, have the unique opportunity to meet, chat, and even get into bed with designers!
In bed With Designers French Kiss 2014
The opening day Friday sees an afternoon catered to buyers and media, with a guided tour of designers’ rooms as well as opportunities for interviews, introductions, photographs and our bespoke Designer Drinks to end the evening.
Saturday offers another chance to jump into bed with designers all day. The afternoon sees the final of our Spot Design Award. A panel of esteemed judges from the international design community including Michael Young, Raj Nandan, Daniel Jeffreys and Lise Coirier. The award ceremony will precede a cocktail party.
Michael Young is a British born industrial designer who is now based in Hong Kong. Over his career he has worked with global names and has been creative director of a number of design festivals.
Jovana Bogdanovic is a furniture and interior designer from Belgrade. After working in studios in Europe, in 2010 she became a design partner of PinWu studio in Hangzhou working with traditional Chinese craft.
Raj Nandan purchased his first magazine, Architectural Review Australia, at age 22 – a prelude to his boutique publishing house Indesign Media Asia Pacific (IMAP), which he launched only 7 years later.
Arnault Castel is owner of Kapok design stores in Hong Kong and Singapore and has developed a deep knowledge of the design and retail scene in Asia. Moore Chen is the founder and design director of HEI:interior. Moore specialises in both interior and engineering design and has completed a number of renowned projects in Hong Kong. Grace Wang is the general manager and brains behind the ten branches of VVG. There’s a fine dining restaurant, a B&B, a bookshop and other ventures dotted around a few streets. Born in Hong Kong to English-Chinese parents, Danielle Huthart has pursued art all her life. After a decade in New York, she returned to Hong Kong and founded Whitespace in 2005, a creative agency that specializes in design direction and branding across a variety of mediums including print and interactive. Sandrine Barbeaux is a Belgian art consultant, an artist manager and a curator. After working in fashion in Paris, where she supported emerging designers and artists, she came East, drawn by Chinese art. With over 20 years of experience in the travel and hospitality industry, Carsten Lima is the Area Director for Design Hotels™ in Asia-Pacific. In his role, he heads the Asia-Pacific operations with a focus on portfolio development and account management. Iko In, Founder of iN Publishers, is acknowledged as one of the ordinary individuals who have reached extraordinary heights of achievement in the interior design field. He was awarded the Brands Elite Achiever Award and more recently, the Ten Outstanding Young Malaysians (TOYM) for 2013. Daniel Jeffreys is one of the leading luxury and fashion commentators in Asia. Jeffreys now publishes a number of fashion, design and luxury titles in Asia and is Visiting Professor at Hong Kong Design Institute.
Sunday will see a Designer Brunch followed by a few more design surprises. Gao Youjun, aka Tango, is a popular cartoonist on Weibo, where over 160,000 followers enjoy the cartoons he posts every day. The hobby began as a bet in 2010 when one of Tango’s friends said, “Why don’t you open a Weibo account and draw every day?” He accepted the challenge and began to draw. Do not miss the live sketching performance by the famous artist Tango at the event from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday 11th May 2014.
