In bed With Designers: 1 week-end, 3 floors, 50 designers: A brilliant chance to discover unique designs and visionary designers.

buyMeDesign are launching the first Hong Kong Designers’ Week by hosting a unique concept entitled In bed With Designers. The first event of its kind in Asia will feature:

  • Pop-up designer sleepover from November 30 to December 1. Talented designers from more than ten countries will come to Hong Kong to set up a cozy hotel room to showcase and sell their works with the rest of the city.
  • A boutique hotel showroom curated by buyMeDesign will begin its residence at the Mini Hotel over the weekend.
  • An evening of design on Saturday 30 November will include a media gathering and tour of designers’ rooms, our Design Talk and PechaKucha Night Hong Kong.

Across the weekend, buyMeDesign’s carefully curated designers will take over the Mini Hotel, creating a wonderland of design just ready for everyone to explore.This is a great chance to seek out and discover new designs and to get really hands on with the creations. Guests will, of course, have the unique opportunity to meet, chat, and even get into bed with designers!

A range of some of buyMeDesign’s favourite products from across the globe will be displayed in our own boutique showroom – which will be on display at the Mini Hotel long after the event has finished. Saturday’s evening of design is sure to be a real celebration. A guided tour will take media guests around the various showcasing designers’ rooms. This will be followed by Design Talk where some of the greatest global design minds will tackle the question “What is curation in Asia?” The evening will be rounded off with PechaKucha Night Hong Kong organized by ChowPourianLab.

Among many others to discover, Hubert Verstraeten will be showcasing his Bakelite brand of accessories Tamawa,  Xavier Coenen will display his modular furniture and Studio Banana Things will be bringing the world famous Ostrich Pillow. For Design Talk, we will be welcoming international industrial designer Michael Young, Project Director of Hong Kong Design Centre, William To, and fashion, design and architecture blogger Wanderlister and more.

Promising designers and design shops from over 10 different countries will be given a cozy hotel room to display their works and share them with design lovers in Hong Kong.

Hubert Verstraeten will bring Bakelite accessories from his brand Tamawa (Belgium)
There will be a fantastic range of funky stationery from Praxis Design (Hong Kong)
Xavier Coenen‘s modular furniture, Momodul, will be on display (Belgium)
Beautiful hand-made oriental furniture from Pinwu will be showcased (China)
Boris Design Studio‘s original home decoration and lighting are coming (Sweden)
The Ostrich Pillow by Studio Banana Things to ensure a napping sensation (Spain)
Dsignedby will be showing their range of ultra modern furniture (Serbia)
Cute and quirky stationery items will be on offer from Zeup Design Studio (Korea)
Parisian sex toy, La Tour est Folle, will also be making its Hong Kong debut (France)
Aiste Nesterovaite‘s range of quizzical yet functional fashion will be showcased (Lithuania)

Design Talk is a round-table creative discussion to tackle the question “What is curation in Asia?” We will be joined by designers, industry experts, journalists and bloggers from around the world.

Florence Coirier is founder of buyMeDesign and ‘curator of cool things.’ She will be hosting the evening’s discussion. Florence has an eye for curation and is passionate about revealing emerging designs and designers in Asia and beyond.
Michael Young is a British born industrial designer who is now based in Hong Kong. Over his career he has worked with global names and has been creative director of a number of design festivals.
Lui Tong is a strategic entrepreneur in China’s luxury market, with a passion for fashion. Tong has worked as a buyer and brand manager for Lane Crawford as well as developing her own brands.
William To is Project Director of Hong Kong Design Centre and Creative and Programme Director at PMQ. To is therefore a mainstay of Hong Kong’s design community.
Hubert Verstraeten and Tamawa have created a range of bright and bold plastic accessories with a passion for the production process. He is a knowledgeable designer with a keen interest in Asia.
Lise Coirier is founder and editor in chief of TL Magazine. She has been involved in a range of successful  publications, projects, and events that promote contemporary design in Belgium.
Arnault Castel is owner of Kapok design stores in Hong Kong and Moleskine distributor in Asia. He has scoured the world for compelling designs to bring to Hong Kong.
Daniel Kong is a prominent fashion writer and blogger in Hong Kong. His own blog, Black Renaissance, was named as an influential Chinese fashion blog by Independent Fashion Bloggers.
Wanderlister (JJ Acuna) is an architect and interior designer by day and moonlights as a style writer and blogger. His blog collects all that is hot in art, fashion, design and architecture in Asia and beyond.
